  • Match Synopsis:
In an end of the season game with nothing to play for both sides fielded weakened teams. DOB notably with Phillip Corcoran and Gary Matthews both out injured - that's sixty goals between them this season - and The White Hart without a recognised goalie. Even though the league fixtures are dwindling down the game strangely enough still did not get designated a referee so injured Matt Hodey took over in the middle to carry on from his controversial handling of the first game way back in September. True to form twenty minutes into the game an innocuous bounce up seemed to ping off an arm and it was a penalty. It was Danny Affleck's turn from the spot this weekend and he scored with confidence to put the away side 1-0 in front. Neither side created a clear cut chance from this point on and the only incident of note was an unfortunate hamstring injury to Lee Mason which has probably put paid to his season. Matt Hodey handed over the refereeing reigns to David Strover in the second half and the excitement and thrills continued on the bobbly pitch for the next forty-five minutes. In reality Dorcan Old Boys rear guard snuffed out any chances The White Hart managed to create for half an hour whilst missing several gilt edged ones of their own. Most notable Graeme Little blocking his own player, debutant Barry Shedden, from heading home from only yards out and then everyone seeming to get in on the act from only yards out again when the post, players and goalie were all hit rather than the back of the net which looked easier. With the clock ticking down White Hart definitely stepped up a gear and DOB seemed to go to sleep. Sloppy play at the back allowed Adam Poole in goal, who had a relatively quiet game up until then, to make three great saves to keep his team in front but with five minutes to go more sloppy marking and defending allowed a right wing cross to be hooked across the area to unmarked second half substitute Liam Gooch and he somewhat scuffed the ball home form ten yards to make the score 1-1. The final five minutes were played out with The White Hart looking the more likely of the two sides to score but it was not to be and the game ended all square. This game means that The White Hart, who share the The White Hart public house as the home base with DOB win the inaugural Secretaries Trophy, both teams won one game each and drew this match but DOB needed extra time in the cup win and The White Hart outscored 'The Stags' by 7-6 overall. Congratulations to Mark Jones and the lads who ended the season the only team to not lose to DOB in Division Six!
