GP-21; Goals - 1.Chris 'The Hammer' Hanrahan started off with the club from day one, he was at the first training session and scored in the first ever league game. A genuine Dorcan old boy and long time associate of the Gaffer an unfortunate illness, then injury and then unavailability robbed him of starting line up chances in the first two seasons. When Chris did get in the time, often coming off the bench, he showed flashes of his old self but never fully regained his former glories. A skilful, thoughtful, footballer's footballer Chris was the master of the dressing room throw away line often causing guffaws of laughter with 'desert dry' remarks - usually at the Gaffer's expense. Fully intending to fight for a place in the 2007-08 season Chris seemed up for the fight but eventually after much thought decided to call it a day. No matter what, he was part of the first game and scored a goal in the historic landmark match. The club hopes he will not be a stranger. Benjamin Fitzgibbon (06-06-83) Defence/Midfield GP - 26; Goals - 0. Ben came arrived at the club near the beginning of the first season and although never guaranteed a place arrived most weeks and diligently waited his time. As the first season wore on and for most of the club's second season Ben found himself playing more and more often. A quiet player on the pitch it was easy to overlook Ben's contribution and whilst he was never going to be the 'star' player he was without doubt a valuable player. Frustrated by not always getting a regular game youngster Ben decided not to sign on for the third season and sought new challenges. Whether this will proved to be regretted by Ben or the club remains to be seen but it can confidently said that Ben will be missed come Sunday mornings. David Strover (17-07-1962) goalkeeper 2005-07 GP - 19; Goals against - 39; GAAvg - 2.05; Clean sheets - 2. Member of the first season squad who at forty-three years of age was probably too old and too long in the tooth at the time. After a fairly anonymous season decided to retire before the 2006-07 season. Played pre-season friendlies at the beginning of that season to help the club out of a bind and managed one final league game in the sophomore season, a fairly innocuous 4-1 win over The Abbey, and has now bowed out for good. Stayed on in the backroom and hopes to become club secretary for the third season. Club website author and statistician. Biggest regret? The team never saw him at his best, in his late twenties, and none of them believe that he ever was really good. The past is a far country...
GP - 13; Goals - 4. Ricky was signed on pre-season in the club's first season it was hoped his slight frame and fast turn of speed would terrorise defences. On his day that is exactly what this popular player did. Unfortunately for Ricky the club had a surfeit of talented forwards also with good turns of speed. With holidays and work commitments cutting into his playing time Ricky found his opportunities limited and was often on the bench. At the conclusion of the season he decided to concentrate on golf on Sunday mornings.
Inglis Cole (15-09-1977) forward 2005-06 GP - 9; Goals - 4. Inglis is a tall rangy forward with a streak of arrogance and confidence that belied his quiet demeanour. Holidays, work commitments and injury ate into his playing time and in the end he never made a significant enough impact on the team, not even managing a double figure appearance total. Inglis curtailed his involvement with the club for the 2006-07 season due to further work commitments and travelling plans.
James Osborne (21-11-1986) forward 2005-06 GP - 7; Goals - 0. A relative of the Gaffer who was perhaps a bit too young, slight and quiet for the boisterous more experienced Dorcan Old Boys. Once again another player who was unfortunate to be a forward player in a team full of talented attacking players. James did not have the impact that was hoped for and eventually drifted out of selection and ultimately the club during the 2005-06 season. Dean Wise (26-05-1978) centre half 2005-2006 GP - 5; Goals - 0. Big and powerful Dean, or 'Billy' as he liked to be known, started the early season with some promise but unavailability and failure to arrive for some fixtures severely damaged his selection chances and by the close of the season he was a rarely seen bit player. Did not re-sign for the second season.
Carl Burke (01-06-1979) forward 2005-2006 GP - 3; Goals - 0. A popular 'Scouser' who was an enthusiastic pre-season attendee that started in three of the first five games but a re-occurring old injury flared up and side-lined Carl for most of 2005. Eventually called time on his playing days in early 2006 before the season ended but made sure manager, Matt Hodey, knew he was readily available if the team had selection difficulties.
Collin Fox (18-01-1978) midfield 2005-2006 GP - 2; Goals - 0.Talented six-a-side player who started the eleven-a-side game in midfield and was with the club from the foundation. Collin never really settled into the standard eleven-a-side game and after a brace of games was man enough to admit that his chances of a regular game or making a significant impact were going to be few and far between. Like Carl Burke made himself available for selection in the event of an emergency but drifted away from the club way before the conclusion of 2005. |
